How long do refunds take and where will they go?

Refunds may be issued for various reasons, including overpayments, cancellations, or policy changes that reduce your premium.

A refund may take up to 15 days to send.

If you paid via Credit Card or Debit Card your refund will be returned to your card in most cases. Once Kin sends a refund, it can take 3-7 business days to reflect in your account (this is in addition to the original 15 days to send). The timing can vary depending on your bank's processing times.

If your mortgage company paid via check or we are unable to refund your card, your refund will be sent as a digital check via Checkbook.io. You will receive an email from support@checkbook.io with 3 options:

    1. Direct deposit using your bank account and routing number. For additional details on how to process your direct deposit: https://support.checkbook.io/hc/en-us/articles/11242491353499-How-to-deposit-your-digital-payment-via-Direct-Deposit-as-an-Individual
    2. Print your refund check to deposit via your mobile banking app or bring it to your local bank branch to deposit. For additional details on how to print your digital refund: https://support.checkbook.io/hc/en-us/articles/11242532918043-How-to-deposit-a-digital-payment-via-Print-Deposit
    3. Have a physical check printed and mailed to you.
If you are expecting a refund and do not see an email from Checkbook.io after 15 days, please be sure to check your spam/junk folder! If you still do not see that email, please Submit a Request and we will contact you with an update.

Please note: We will never refund your mortgage company directly. All refunds will be sent to the policyholder (you). We advise that if your mortgage company made the initial payment, you return any amount refunded to you to your escrow account to avoid any shortages.
