I'm escrow pay but received a notice about a missed payment - what should I do?
If you're escrow pay and receive a notice about a missed payment or pending cancellation, your mortgage company may not have paid your premium on time. You have options to resolve this.
Option 1: Wait for your lender to pay
- Kin has notified your lender that payment is due and when the policy is pending cancellation for nonpayment
- Your lender should process the payment, but your policy runs the risk of cancelling in the meantime
Option 2: Make a one-time payment if you want to prevent cancellation immediately:
- Log into your customer portal at Kin.com
- Go to the Payments page for the policy that needs payment
- You'll see the outstanding payment with a red box alert
- Click Make Payment on the transaction OR click the Make Payment button in the red alert box
- Enter your credit card information
- You can choose whether to save the card on file (optional)
- Submit your payment
- If payment is successful, your policy will no longer be pending cancellation and will be in good standing!
- If we receive a duplicate payment from your lender, we will refund you the amount sent by your lender.
- For more details on refunds, see the article How Long Do Refunds Take and Where Will They Go?
Important notes:
- Making a one-time payment does NOT change you from escrow to credit card pay
- You'll remain as escrow pay
- Your lender should still handle future payments
- This is an exception to prevent cancellation
Common reasons why this happens:
- Your mortgage company didn't process the payment on time
- A change in escrow servicer
