What happens when I cancel my policy?

Here's what you need to know about the cancellation process and its effects.

Only the primary named insured or signed co-applicant can cancel a policy.


How to request cancellation:

Step 1: Contact Kin

You cannot cancel directly through the portal. You can cancel by contacting Kin via:

Step 2: Provide required information

When requesting cancellation, you'll need:

    • Policy number or address
    • Cancellation effective date
    • Reason for cancellation
    • Confirmation of new coverage (if backdating your cancellation)

Step 3: Confirmation

Once your cancellation is processed, you'll receive:

    • A email confirming your policy was cancelled
    • A cancellation notice, located in the Documents tab of your customer portal
      • You will be able to access your cancelled policy via your customer portal even after it is cancelled
    • A refund, if one is owed
    • If you have a lender, they will be notified of the policy's cancellation.

 

Important considerations before cancelling:

If needed, make sure you have new coverage in place before cancelling
  • Gaps in coverage can affect future rates
  • Some lenders require continuous coverage
